How to prepare for the IBM compliance crackdown

The new Passport Advantage obligations

What enterprise company does not have at least one Passport Advantage signature in house? It is that contract that regulates IBM licence purchases with significant volume discounts.

As of 1 May, there is a new clause that redefines compliance verification. IBM can now request once a year, with 30 days' notice, usage data on all programmes and this information must be received in a format approved by IBM.

IBM compliance is mainly related to the IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT) and the quarterly production of reports for sub-capacity licence verification. But now the scope is widening and the tools available may not be sufficient to cover the number and evolution of IBM metrics (more than 100!) and bundles.

The new IBM report is not yet available, but we already know what it will ask of us: it is the right time to take control of your own environments and current licence rights in order to check your licence position before the vendor's request.

In the case of overruns, the shortfall would strongly penalise the budget!
