Innovation and collaboration: the Portfolio Workshop at Rheinmetall Italia

Rheinmetall Rheinmetall Italia, part of the German group that is a leader in manufacturing equipment for the space and defense sectors, is sending a strong signal toward the future by decisively investing in the digitalization of business processes. To identify the most relevant use cases, it chose to engage in aPortfolio Workshop, which we had the pleasure of leading together with our low-code partner, low-code Mendix platform.

The goal of the workshop was to identify, through a guided process, the strategic use casesfor building a digital application ecosystem based on the Mendix platform, optimizing business processes and integrating existing systems. 

From the very beginning, the project stood out for the strong commitment of Rheinmetall Italia's executives, who actively involved people from various business areas. This collaborative approach ensured a complete view of business needs and priorities. More than 15 representativestook part in the workshop, ready to share their experience and perspectives on the necessary optimizations. 

The session opened with a brainstorming by functional area, during which ideas were collected on colored post-its and then rationalized in a summary phase. The highlight was thestrategic decoding, where each proposal was analyzed in detail, assessing key aspects such as expected business value, technical feasibility, and integration with existing systems.  

Thanks to this structured approach, Rheinmetall Italia now has a clear view of the priority use cases and innovation opportunities. These will be further developed, moving from simple concepts to requirements gathering, and finally to actual implementation.
